What happens to a wild animal’s drive to hunt when its next meal is guaranteed? For two groups of monkeys in Brazil, the answer turned out to be simple but telling: the ones with a steady handout hunted far less. The discovery is helping scientists rethink one of the oldest questions about human evolution: why early humans started hunting animals in the first place.
