Eucalyptus Oil Benefits, plus 15 Ways to Use It

By Dr. Josh Axe, DC, DNM, CN

Are you looking for an essential oil that will help to boost your immune system, protect you from a variety of infections and relieve respiratory conditions? Introducing: eucalyptus essential oil. It’s one of the best essential oils for sore throats, cough, seasonal allergies and headaches. Eucalyptus oil benefits are due to its ability to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation.

Researchers have found that its “broad-spectrum antimicrobial action make it an attractive alternative to pharmaceuticals.” This is why eucalyptus essential oil is commonly used in products to fight foreign pathogens and different forms of infections.

So next time you’re looking for a home remedy for that hacking cough you can’t shake, you want to disinfect your home naturally, or maybe you are trying to repel house rats that are managing to get inside, try using eucalyptus oil. I know you’ll love what it can do for you and your family.

What Is Eucalyptus Oil?

Eucalyptus oil is made from leaves of selected eucalyptus tree species. The trees belong to the plant family Myrtaceae, which is native to Australia, Tasmania and nearby islands. There are more than 500 eucalypti species, but essential oils of Eucalyptus salicifolia and Eucalyptus globulus (which is also called fever tree or gum tree) are retrieved for their medicinal properties.

Aside from extracting their essential oils, the bark of the eucalyptus tree is used for papermaking and the wood is used in Australia as fuel and timber.

Traditionally, eucalyptus oil was used as an analgesic agent that helped to relieve pain, and it was valued for its ability to reduce inflammation and improve respiratory conditions. And today, eucalyptus oil benefits and uses are extensive, and the oil is commonly used in healing ointments, perfumes, vapor rubs and cleaning products.

Eucalyptol, or 1,8-cineole, which accounts for 70–90 percent of the contents of eucalyptus oil, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Eucalyptus is also well known for its ability to fight bacterial, viral and fungal infections, and to help clear the respiratory tract of built up mucus. For these reasons, eucalyptus is definitely one of the most beneficial and versatile essential oils to keep in your medicine cabinet.

Keep in mind that the extraction method best able to maintain the variety of useful compounds in essential oils will be cold extraction, often using CO2. Steam distillation and other methods using high heat or volatile chemicals won’t result in the same level of beneficial compounds.

Health Benefits

1. Improves Respiratory Conditions

Of all the essential oils, eucalyptus has been believed to be one of the most effective against a range of respiratory conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, the common cold, cough or the flu.

Eucalyptus essential oil improves many respiratory conditions because it helps to stimulate your immune system, provide antioxidant protection and improve your respiratory circulation. Eucalyptus makes it feel easier to breathe when you’re feeling stuffed up and your nose is running because it activates your nose’s cold receptors, and it even works as a natural sore throat remedy. Plus, eucalyptus can help with sleeping when you are feeling congested and unable to breath.

Research shows that Eucalyptus globulus, of which cineole is the major active ingredient, helps to reduce the inflammatory effect of chronic bronchitis and inhibits the hypersecretion of airway mucins in animal studies.

A randomized study published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine evaluated the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections using aromatic herbs. The trial was conducted in six primary care clinics in northern Israel and participants were treated with an essential oil blend that included eucalyptus, peppermint, oregano and rosemary essential oils. Those in the experimental group applied the essential oil blend as a spray five times a day for three days and compared these results to a placebo spray.

Researchers found that 20 minutes after using the spray, those in the essential oil group reported a greater improvement of symptom severity compared to those in the placebo group. The symptoms measured were sore throat, hoarseness and cough.

2. Relieves Cough

Eucalyptus oil is one of the most effective essential oils for cough because it works as an expectorant, cleansing your body of the microorganisms and toxins that are making you cough and feel lousy. Eucalyptus oil also makes it feel easier to breathe when you’re feeling stuffed up and your nose is running.

A placebo-controlled double-blind trial conducted in 2014 investigated the efficacy of cineole, one of the main components in eucalyptus oil, on patients with acute bronchitis. Patients who were administered 200 milligrams of cineole three times a day for a 10-day period experienced significant improvements of bronchitis symptoms compared to those receiving the placebo. Patients receiving cineole had significantly less cough fits after four days of treatment.

3. Improves Seasonal Allergies

Components of eucalyptus oil, such as eucalyptol and citronellal, have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, which is why the oil is often used to relieve seasonal allergy symptoms.

An animal study published in BMC Immunology found that eucalyptus oil not only exhibits antiseptic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, but it may also have immuno-regulatory effects. This can help to alter the immune response that occurs when the body comes into contact with an allergen.

4. Fights Infections

Several studies show that eucalyptus oil and its main component, eucalyptol, have antimicrobial effects against many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Eucalyptus can be used aromatically or topically to fight the microorganisms that make you sick. This is why eucalyptus oil benefits include its ability to boost your immune system. A lab study published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine found that eucalyptus oil displayed inhibitory effects against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (which can cause a staph infection).

And another lab study showed that eucalyptus oil has a direct antiviral effect against herpes simplex virus, which can lead to infections including genital herpes.

Eucalyptus essential oil can also be used as an anti-fungal agent against common fungal infections like candida and toenail fungus.

5. Reduces Pain and Inflammation

A well researched eucalyptus oil benefit is its ability to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. When it’s used topically on the skin, eucalyptus can help to reduce muscle pain, soreness and swelling.

A randomized clinical trial published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine investigated the effects of inhaling eucalyptus oil on pain and inflammatory responses after total knee replacement surgery. Patients inhaled either eucalyptus or almond oil for 30 minutes during rehabilitation on three consecutive days. Then pain, blood pressure and heart rate scores were reported. Researchers found that pain scores on all three days, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels on the second day were significantly lower in the eucalyptus group. This suggests that eucalyptus oil inhalation can be used as “a nursing intervention for pain relief.”

6. Alleviates Headaches

Eucalyptus oil is one of the best essential oils for headaches because it may alleviate sinus pressure that can cause a lot of pain and tension. It also has invigorating properties that can boost mental clarity and promote relaxation of tense facial muscles, which is helpful when you are suffering from a headache caused by stress or exhaustion. These results seem to be most pronounced when eucalyptus oil is combined with peppermint oil and a carrier.

A 2011 randomized study found that eucalyptus oil has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It can help to inhibit the formation of mucus in the airways and improve breathing for people with respiratory conditions, which can help to reduce headache tension that’s caused by sinus pressure.

7. Aids Wound Care

I’m often asked if eucalyptus oil is good for your skin? Because of its antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, eucalyptus works as a great tool for skin irritations such as wounds, cuts, burns, sores and even insect bites.

According to a 2017 review that evaluated the use of essential oils as alternative medicine for dermatological conditions, eucalyptus oil has proven to be effective against blisters, boils, cuts, cold sores, insect bites, shingles, sores, ulcers, wounds, abscesses, athlete’s foot and bacterial dermatitis. It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, making it a very powerful tool against a range of skin conditions. This is why eucalyptus oil was traditionally used as a healing ointment.

8. Improves Earaches

Because eucalyptus oil works as an expectorant that helps to unclog your respiratory tract and has antimicrobial properties that help to clear up an infection that may cause fluid to build up in your ear canal, it can be used to improve ear infection symptoms and earaches.

Use eucalyptus oil to improve earaches or pain that’s caused by the common cold or cough, nasal congestion, a bacterial infection, seasonal allergies, or any other type of condition that’s causing the buildup of fluids in your ear canals.

9. Boosts Mental Clarity

Eucalyptus oil has invigorating, soothing and purifying properties, which is why it can be used to boost energy and mental clarity. It may help to clear your airways, allow more oxygen into your lungs and relieve brain fog.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized cross-over study that involved 32 healthy participants found that when a combination of eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil and ethanol were applied to large areas of the forehead and temples, the participants experienced increased cognitive performance. The essential oil blend also had muscle-relaxing and mentally relaxing effects.

10. Repels Rats

Did you know that eucalyptus oil can help you to get rid of rats naturally? It may seem like a surprising eucalyptus oil benefit, but a 2014 study published in The Scientific World Journal suggests that eucalyptus can be used in protecting an area from house rats.

When the oil was sprayed in laboratory pens, the rats no longer consumed food in that area. In fact, researchers report that food consumption was significantly lower from the treatment side compared to the untreated side, which indicates a significant repellent effect of eucalyptus essential oil.

Common Uses

1. Disinfect Your Home — Add 20 drops of eucalyptus oil to a spray bottle filled with water and use it to clean the surfaces of your home or diffuse 5 drops at home to kill germs.

2. Stop Mold Growth — Add 5 drops of eucalyptus oil to your vacuum cleaner or surface cleaner to inhibit the growth of mold in your home.

3. Repel Rats — Add 20 drops of eucalyptus oil to a spray bottle filled with water and spray areas that are prone to rats, such as small openings in your home or near your pantry. Just be cautious if you have cats, as eucalyptus can be irritating to them.

4. Improve Seasonal Allergies — Diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus at home or work, or apply 2–3 drops topically to your temples and chest.

5. Relieve Cough — Make my Homemade Vapor Rub that’s a combination of eucalyptus and peppermint oil or apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus to your chest and back of neck.

6. Clear Sinuses — Pour a cup of boiling water into a bowl and add 1–2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to it. Then place a towel over your head and inhale the scent deeply for 5 to 10 minutes.

7. Alleviate Sore Throat — Apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus oil to your chest and throat or diffuse 5 drops at home or work.

8. Relieve Earaches — Apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus oil to your chest and back of neck or gently rub 1 drop into the outer part of your ear canal. Remember to dilute eucalyptus oil before using it topically on a child.

9. Boost Your Immune System — Make your own immune-boosting oil by combining eucalyptus, clove, lemon, cinnamon and rosemary essential oils. You can also diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus oil at home or work.

10. Relieve Skin Irritations — Apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus oil to a clean cotton ball and rub it into the area of concern two to three times daily until the issue has cleared.

11. Soothe Insect Bites — Apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus oil to a clean cotton ball and apply it to the insect bite three times daily until it disappears.

12. Boost Energy — Diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus oil at home or work, or rub 2–3 drops into your temples and back of neck.

13. Alleviate Headache — Diffuse 5 drops of eucalyptus at home or work, inhale the oil directly from the bottle, or apply 2–3 drops topically to your temples and back of neck.

14. Relieve Muscle Pain or Soreness — Apply 2–3 drops of eucalyptus topically to the area of concern. To cover a larger surface area, dilute eucalyptus with half teaspoon of carrier oil.

15. Fight Bad Breath and Cavities — Use eucalyptus oil as a natural mouthwash by adding 1–2 drops to water, gargling and then spitting it out. Keep in mind, eucalyptus should not be swallowed.

Precautions

Eucalyptus oil is not safe for internal use. It should only be used aromatically or topically. If you are using eucalyptus for oral health purposes, make sure to spit it out afterwards.

People with sensitive skin should dilute eucalyptus oil with a carrier oil (like coconut oil) before using it on their skin. I also suggest diluting eucalyptus before applying it topically to your children, and avoid using it on their faces, as it can be irritating.

There have been instances of eucalyptus oil poisoning in infants and young children. It is not safe for children to swallow eucalyptus oil. If you are using eucalyptus oil on children, stick to diffusing it at home or diluting it with a carrier oil before topical application.

Final Thoughts

What are the benefits of eucalyptus oil? Eucalyptus oil benefits include its ability to:

  • Improve respiratory conditions
  • Relieve cough
  • Improve seasonal allergies
  • Fight infections
  • Reduce pain and inflammation
  • Alleviate headaches
  • Aid wound care

  • Boost mental clarity
  • Repel rats

Let's Talk About the Truth Regarding Measles

 By Jennifer Rae Vliet

I can remember exactly where I was when I caught a live segment with Dr. Sherri Tenpenny in 2020 when the mRna vaccine was being discussed and why it was a bad idea to take it. Dr. Tenpenny said, "taking this mRna shot is like playing Russian Roulette with your life...mark my words, within five years we are going to be seeing people literally just dropping dead all around us!".

Boy was she right.

All of the hype going on all over the news about an alleged, "resurgence of a deadly disease called Measles" is unnerving however, all you have to do is come to The Plain Truth's Your Health Today blog and find out what truths God wants you to know about a whole host of health issues.

Here is Dr. Tenpenny...such a highly respected doctor from Cleveland Ohio where she has been a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine:

Dr. Sherri Tenpenny -

I have been hearing all over the news about this outbreak of the measles and people seem to be getting very worried about it. First of all, measles is not a disease, and we have to stop calling it that...it is an infection.

What is Measles?

It is a fever, a cough, a rash, some diarrhea, and some conjunctivitis that can leave some crusting on the eye lashes. Also, at the end of the fever, children get something called disclamation of the skin which is a peeling off of the skin in their hands which marks the end of the measles infection.

The death rate from measles was 2 in a million back in 1962. This statistic comes from public health records and that was the year before the measles vaccine was released.

The measles vaccine cut down on the incidence rate of measles because it stopped the transmission, however, it really didn't do anything to change the death rate which was always very low to begin with.

The World Health Organization has been publishing since 2005 that giving children vitamin A in the amount of 200,000 IU's which is about 100 CC's of vitamin A. For example, you would give this to a child over a two-day period, two droppers full each day which has been said can prevent and treat the measles.

Why aren't we doing that? Instead of this hysteria over getting everyone re-vaccinated?

Public health really needs to change its perspective and stop being based solely on high vaccination rates and low infection rates. We need to be talking about true prevention, nutrition and health instead of vaccination rates.

Dr. Berg goes into some of the ways you can protect against NORMAL childhood infections...he goes more in depth into Vitamin A and suggests that Vitamin D is even more important than Vitamin A.

'Without their knowledge': Unsuspecting Americans subject to top secret biomedical clinical trials

'It is considered assault to involve humans with unwanted medical treatments'

A little-known rule of the Food and Drug Administration allows the government, pharmaceutical companies and universities to bypass "informed consent" requirements when involving individuals in certain clinical research or trials for new drug approval.

WorldNetDaily spoke to Brian Ward, the creator of CovidPenalty.com, a consultant and expert in regulations governing the $600 billion biomedical research industry. Ward reached out to WND to express concern that universities, for example, have been authorized to conduct trials using investigational compounds without the explicit consent of participants.

As Ward explained, in February 2024 Democrats finalized a new rule that fundamentally amended how clinical trials can be conducted in the United States. "Before the new rule was enacted," he told WND, "if a person's identifiable private information was known, the clinical trial's sponsor was lawfully bound to obtain the individual's legally effective informed consent before involving them."

The strange religion of vaccine worship

Nearly half of all Democrat voters backed measures requiring 'the unvaccinated' to live, at least temporarily, in detention facilities

It wasn't until right after the little girl had received her third and final pertussis vaccine shot that all hell broke loose.

One of five children in a Christian homeschooling family this writer knows well, the child suffered an extreme and life-altering reaction to the common childhood vaccine. Today, many years later, her family's life has largely revolved around taking care of this unfortunate daughter, confined to a wheelchair, unable to speak, her life decimated by a "required" vaccine shot.

In 1986, prompted by ever-increasing numbers of vaccine disaster cases like the once just cited – and more to the point, in order to halt the trend of drug manufacturers abandoning the vaccine business altogether due to the huge judgments courts were awarding victims of their products – Congress passed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act.

Look How Much Money Dems Get From Big Pharma - and Who Takes the Most!

Turns out that Democrats aren't just taking money from the pharmaceutical industry. They are taking metric buttloads of money from the pharmaceutical industry.

By Ward Clark

In his confirmation hearings, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Donald Trump's nominee to head up the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has been taking a real grilling from Senate Democrats. Now, this scion of the (liberal) Kennedy family has, by and large, been giving as good as he gets. What's more, he seems to have learned a thing or two from President Trump about punching back.

Turns out that Democrats aren't just taking money from the pharmaceutical industry. They are taking metric buttloads of money from the pharmaceutical industry. (In case you're wondering, a metric buttload is 1.14 Imperial buttloads.) X user "A Midwestern Doctor" (@MidwesternDoc) has brought receipts.

Colloidal silver a powerful remedy against superbugs, study finds

“When combined with a small amount of silver nanoparticles, the amount of antibiotic needed to inhibit the bacteria decreased 22-fold, which tells us that the nanoparticles make the drug much more potent,” Czy? explained.

(Natural News) by Ethan Huff

(Natural News) Researchers at the University of Florida have discovered that silver nanoparticles, also known as colloidal silver, can serve as a powerful remedy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, more commonly known as “superbugs.”

Certain hard-to-fight infections die on contact with silver, the scientists revealed in their paper, which was published in the journal Frontiers in Microbiology. The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles, or microscopic spheres of silver small enough to operate at the cellular level, could aid in the fight against antibiotic-resistant infections, which kill more than a million people globally every single year.

The purpose of the study was to test the efficacy of silver nanoparticles alongside a common class of broad-spectrum antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. Daniel Czy?, the study’s senior author, told the media that his team’s experiments show that the two things do, in fact, work synergistically.

“When combined with a small amount of silver nanoparticles, the amount of antibiotic needed to inhibit the bacteria decreased 22-fold, which tells us that the nanoparticles make the drug much more potent,” Czy? explained.

Taking aminoglycosides by themselves at prescribed doses is risky, carrying with it the potential for deadly side effects. Adding silver into the mix allows for lower doses of aminoglycosides to be taken with amplified effect, making for a safer remedy.

Autumn Dove, another study author, explained that prolonged overuse of antibiotics has created an environment where traditional remedies no longer work, hence the need for alternative remedies that include the addition of silver.

“Let’s say you get a bad burn on your hand, and it gets infected with one of these resistant strains of bacteria,” Dove is quoted as saying. (Related: Copper is another healing metal with strong efficacy against superbugs.)

“It’s possible that dressing that burn with a combination of silver nanoparticles and antibiotics could both clear that infection and prevent those resistant bacteria from spreading elsewhere.”

Low-dose antibiotics combined with silver a better remedy than antibiotics alone

While antibiotics primarily target bacteria, they are also known to damage human and animal cells. This makes them problematic even for their approved use, which is killing people’s healthy gut bacteria along with the bad kind.

The great thing about silver is that, as confirmed in tests using a microscopic worm called C. elegans, it does not harm non-bacterial cells like antibiotics do. Silver selectively targets just the harmful bacterial cells, making it a better remedy alongside lower doses of antibiotics as opposed to just higher doses of antibiotics by themselves.

The next step, based on these findings, is for the scientists to seek authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct clinical trials on the silver-antibiotics formula. They also hope to work with the University of Florida’s Innovate program to patent an antimicrobial product that contains silver nanoparticles.

“Perhaps there was a reason for gold and silver money, silver eating utensils, and the current use of silver in burn dressing,” one commenter wrote about the history of use for silver, gold, and other natural metals.

“They have discovered something that has been known for hundreds of years but has recently been hidden by Big Pharma.”

Another wrote that colloidal silver can be made at home fairly easily without the need to purchase it as a patented drug formula.

“It works against bacteria, virus, and fungus,” this person added about homemade colloidal silver. “The U.S. Navy has experimented with this, and it is also used by the ‘silver spoon’ rich.”

Someone else joked that the new research “gives new meaning to being fed with a silver spoon.”

MAKING AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN!

Clearly, the medical bureaucracies within Big Government have not been worthy of Americans' trust. Nor has Big Pharma, which has proven itself to be far more motivated by gargantuan profits than safeguarding human lives

By WND Staff

"Make America Healthy Again," the new Trump administration agenda inspired and led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., couldn't be more vital – indeed, crucial – considering the alarming decline in Americans' health. Consider:

* The U.S. is in the grip of a full-blown obesity epidemic, with well over 200 million Americans – including millions of children – being overweight or obese. According to the CDC, over 40% of adults in the United States are clinically obese, in stark contrast with the 1950s, when approximately 10% of U.S. adults were obese.

* The number of American children and adults with autism spectrum disorders has exploded, rising by 175% over just the last decade. One out of every 36 children in the U.S. has been diagnosed with autism, up from 1 in 44 as recently as 2021. In contrast, during the 1950s, autism was virtually nonexistent, afflicting between 0.01% and 0.05% of Americans born during that decade.

* Early-onset cancer cases rose almost 80% over the last three decades and show no signs of slowing down. One major 2022 study reveals the incidence of early-onset cancers – including breast, colon, esophagus, kidney, liver and pancreas – has been dramatically increasing since around 1990.

* A staggering 38 million Americans are suffering from diabetes, a number expected to increase to almost 55 million in the next five years. During the late 1950s, the prevalence of diabetes in the U.S. was estimated to be 9 cases per 1,000 people, for a total of 1 million cases.

What's going on? Why is the health of Americans degrading so radically? With the rapid growth of knowledge and technology, including medical technology, one might expect the exact opposite to be the case – that everyone's health would be ever improving.

Trump's radical $500 billion plan to end cancer with a VACCINE

But Donald Trump's most impactful move could be to spearhead the world's first cancer vaccine.

By ALEXA LARDIERI U.S. DEPUTY HEALTH EDITOR DAILYMAIL.COM

He's promised to put Americans on Mars and end the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

But Donald Trump's most impactful move could be to spearhead the world's first cancer vaccine.

This week, amid a flurry of executive orders, the new president announced a $500billion venture he described as the 'largest AI infrastructure project in history.'

The White House says Project Stargate will create tens of thousands of new jobs and usher in a new technological revolution.

But its biggest promise is finally producing cures for cancer, according to one of the AI bosses involved with the program.

Larry Ellison, chief technology officer at computer software company Oracle, said the technology could use simple blood tests to scan for tiny tumor cells, which neither humans nor current lab tests can detect.

This way, patients with the earliest forms of the disease could be identified and treated before the cancer spreads.

He continued: 'Then beyond that, once we gene sequence that cancer tumor you can then vaccinate that person, design a vaccine for every individual person to vaccinate them against that cancer and you can make that mRNA vaccine robotically using AI in about 48 hours.'

He described curing cancers as 'the promise of the future.' Later in the press conference, Sam Altman, the boss of OpenAI which created ChatGPT, said AI will lead to the cure of diseases 'at an unprecedented rate.'

Larry Ellison, chief technology officer at computer software company Oracle, spoke about his company's potential cancer vaccine Tuesday at a White House gathering with President Donald Trump

Larry Ellison, chief technology officer at computer software company Oracle, spoke about his company's potential cancer vaccine Tuesday at a White House gathering with President Donald Trump

Mr Ellison said a potential personalized cancer vaccine is 'the promise of AI and the promise of the future'

Mr. Ellison said a potential personalized cancer vaccine is 'the promise of AI and the promise of the future'

Altman said: 'We will be amazed at how quickly we're curing this cancer and that one and heart disease and what this will do for the ability to deliver very high quality healthcare... to cure the diseases at a rapid rapid rate.

'I think [this technology] will be among the most important things.'

Similar experimental mRNA cancer vaccines have been in development since the technology was advanced during the Covid pandemic.

mRNA vaccines were thrust into the public sphere when Trump established Operation Warp Speed, a campaign to facilitate and accelerate the development and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments.

Trump faced anger from his base over his involvement in the mRNA Covid vaccines, which his administration bankrolled, and many Republicans and Trump supporters were resistant to the shots.

In mRNA cancer vaccines, scientists take a sample from a cancer patient's tumor and analyze its genetic code - every tumor is genetically different, which means no two cancer vaccines are the same.

They then use part of this, called RNA, to develop a bespoke vaccine for the patient in a lab. When injected, the shot will deliver the instructions for the body's cells to produce a harmless part of the tumor, provoking a response from the immune system.

This process trains the immune system to spot this element of the cancer in the future providing protection against the disease.

Americans weigh in on Trump's Daylight Saving policy that would directly affect nearly every US citizen

Nearly half of Americans would support Donald Trump's plan to abolish Daylight Saving Time, an exclusive DailyMail.com poll has revealed.

LUKE ANDREWS SENIOR HEALTH REPORTER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

Nearly half of Americans would support Donald Trump's plan to abolish Daylight Saving Time, an exclusive DailyMail.com poll has revealed.

The survey by J.L Partners found that 48 percent of respondents would strongly support or somewhat support eliminating the twice-yearly changing of the clocks.

For comparison, only 19 percent said they would oppose dumping the practice, while 33 percent said they were neutral or had no opinion.

Trump has suggested he will 'eliminate' the practice during his second term, blasting it as 'inconvenient, and very costly to our nation'.

Only two US states don't observe DST: Arizona and HawaiiBoth opted out, arguing in part that their consistent sunrise and sunset times made it unnecessary.

DST was first introduced in 1918 so that there was more daylight in the evening in a bid to improve workforce productivity.

The clocks go forward by one hour at 1am the second Sunday in March and back one hour at 2am on the first Sunday in November.

But a growing body of evidence shows DST is linked to increased heart attacks and strokes, insomnia, mental health issues, suicides, car accidents and even cancer.https://flo.uri.sh/story/2826648/embed

Losing an hour of sleep when the clocks move forward results in surges in inflammation, stress hormones and exhaustion, raising the risk of suffering from numerous health conditions.

A study that tracked hospital admissions across the state of Michigan found that those for heart attacks rose 24 percent on the Monday following the switch to DST.

And another study from Finland found the overall risk of stroke surged eight percent over the first two days after the clocks changed.

Deaths from road accidents also increase. Studies have found a six percent rise in fatal collisions following the clock change.

There is also limited evidence that DST causes an uptick in suicidal behaviors and increased mortality in the days after shifting the clocks.

The DailyMail.com poll was conducted by J.L Partners and involved a representative sample of 1,009 Americans.

It was carried out between January 10 and 12 this year, with voters interviewed for over 15 minutes on a range of topics after being recruited online.

Results also showed that, by age group, over-65s were most likely to support the shift, with 54 percent backing dumping DST compared to 38 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds

By political party, 54 percent of Republicans were estimated to back the policy compared to 45 percent of Democrats.

Many find the clocks springing ahead one hour in March most disruptive, and several days to a week to adjust their sleeping schedule.

During this time, they may go to bed later and wake up earlier than usual, which causes sleep deprivation — and raises the risk of complications.

DST has also always made less sense in southern states because their sunlight is reasonably consistent all year round.

The time change was implemented nationally in the US in 1918 during the First World War as an effort to save an hour's worth of fuel each day.

It was repealed in 1919, but then brought back in 1942 when the US entered the Second World War.

Some states and cities continued to follow it twice yearly afterward resulting in what was known as the 'chaos of clocks', before the Uniform Time Act was passed in 1966 standardizing DST nationwide.

Today, 48 of the 50 states in the US follow the clock change — excluding Arizona and Hawaii where sunrise and sunset are more constant throughout the year.

Globally, 61 countries and territories use DST — including the UK and many US allies in Europe.

The Healing Nature of Horses

By Jennifer Rae Vliet - ThePlainTruth.com

Anyone with any level of self-awareness can attest to feeling something very unique when they are in the presence of a horse. It is no wonder as they are also very special and significant to God as we can see horses mentioned in the Bible over 150 times. In scripture they are used both literally and figuratively. We read about how David formed an actual chariot calvary of 100 horses and we also see equine used as a comparative and metaphorical reminder of the immense strength of God. Then of course the chilling accounts of the Four Horsemen and all that they and their horses signify in prophecy.

Fast forward to the days of our reliance on them as America was progressing in efficiency and modernity. We had nearly become one with them, finding a dependence for travel and farming, for mail delivery...even as trustworthy companions in combat and of course so much more. Anyone with a love for history and horses can see their value and espouse a continued appreciation...holding them in high regard.

Today, you can just do a search for horse therapy experiences and some of the most beautiful sites you will ever see will pop up hoping you will make it a priority to attend their equine retreats and experiential workshops. Studies do show how spending time with the horse kind can add to one's life in so many different ways. Therapies include and are not limited to helping the disabled, helping those dealing with various levels of autism, presented as necessary distractions for cancer patients, and provides much needed healing for our veterans who are plagued with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Overall, they bring a sense of peace and calm and help focus us in the moment which in itself is important and healing. In a day where there are so many distractions, crazy and overwhelming news, and the pace of life is just way too fast...being with a horse can be centering and life giving. For those of us grounded in our faith and with having an understanding of the awesome creativity of God, it makes sense that maybe what we are sensing in their presence is something spiritual and directly related to our Creator...the true Healer.

Here is an interesting column from WithersforWarriors...

studies suggest:

In the evolving landscape of therapeutic practices, equine therapy emerges as a compelling modality that bridges the ancient bond between humans and horses with contemporary healing methodologies. At its core, equine therapy encompasses a range of treatments involving interactions with horses to promote physical, emotional, and mental health benefits in people. This form of therapy is not new; historically, the therapeutic value of horses has been recognized for centuries, with documented instances of horse-assisted activities dating back to the classical civilizations of Greece. Yet, it is the scientific underpinning and systematic application in modern therapeutic contexts that lend equine therapy its current significance and burgeoning interest among practitioners and patients alike.

Equine therapy is predicated on the premise that interactions with horses can lead to significant psychological and physiological benefits. Horses, with their unique sensitivity to human emotions and non-verbal cues, provide immediate feedback to the actions and emotions of their human counterparts, creating a dynamic platform for therapy. This interaction facilitates a variety of therapeutic goals, including the improvement of individuals’ emotional regulation, enhancement of social skills, and the strengthening of motor skills.

Today we delve into the scientific rationale that supports equine therapy as a legitimate and effective therapeutic approach. It aims to uncover the theoretical foundations that explain how and why equine therapy works, supported by empirical evidence from research studies and practical observations. By examining the psychological theories and physiological mechanisms at play, as well as reviewing the modalities of equine therapy and their specific applications, we provide a comprehensive overview of the science behind equine therapy.

The significance of exploring the science behind equine therapy lies not only in validating its effectiveness but also in understanding the nuances that make it a unique and powerful tool in mental health treatment and rehabilitation. As the demand for holistic and integrative therapeutic practices grows, equine therapy stands out as a modality that offers a holistic approach to healing, encompassing the physical, emotional, and psychological dimensions of well-being. Through this exploration,we aim to contribute to the broader dialogue on therapeutic innovation and the future of mental health treatment, underscoring the indispensable role of equine therapy in the therapeutic landscape.

Theoretical Foundations of Equine Therapy

The effectiveness of equine therapy, though empirically evident in many instances, is grounded in a complex interplay of psychological theories and physiological principles. Understanding these foundational theories is essential for grasping why equine therapy has emerged as a viable and beneficial therapeutic modality.

Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework of equine therapy is rooted in the biopsychosocial model of health, which posits that biological, psychological, and social factors all play a significant role in human health and disease. Equine therapy, by integrating interactions with horses into therapeutic practices, leverages these multifaceted dimensions to promote healing and well-being. The presence of horses in therapy sessions offers a unique combination of biofeedback mechanisms and psychological engagement that is distinct from traditional therapy environments.

Psychological Theories

  1. Attachment Theory: Attachment theory suggests that the quality of relationships in early childhood significantly influences an individual’s emotional health. Horses can act as “transitional objects,” facilitating emotional connections and providing a sense of security and comfort to individuals. The non-judgmental nature of horses, combined with their responsiveness to human behavior, creates a safe space for individuals to explore attachment behaviors and emotional responses.
  2. Biofeedback Theory: This theory involves the process of gaining awareness and control over physiological functions through the use of immediate feedback. Horses naturally respond to human emotions and physical states, providing instant feedback to the handler or rider. This interaction can help individuals become more attuned to their emotional and physiological states, facilitating self-regulation and emotional control.
  3. Cognitive-Behavioral Theories: Cognitive-behavioral theories focus on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Equine therapy can be structured to challenge negative thought patterns, provide opportunities for correcting cognitive distortions, and develop more adaptive behaviors and coping strategies. The experiential learning aspect of equine therapy, where participants engage in tasks with horses, can reinforce positive behavioral and cognitive changes.

Physiological Perspectives

The interaction with horses also has a direct impact on human physiology, which can be beneficial in therapy. Key physiological effects include:

  • Stress Reduction: Interacting with horses has been shown to lower levels of stress hormones, such as cortisol, and increase levels of positive neurochemicals, such as endorphins and oxytocin, which are associated with stress relief and feelings of well-being.
  • Sensory Stimulation: The physical interaction with horses, including grooming, petting, and riding, provides sensory input that can be particularly beneficial for individuals with sensory integration issues, such as those on the autism spectrum. This sensory input can help in regulating the sensory system and promoting calmness and focus.
  • Hormone Regulation: The presence of horses and the bond formed through therapeutic activities can stimulate the production of oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone,” which plays a role in social bonding and emotional regulation.

The theoretical foundations of equine therapy provide a multifaceted understanding of its effectiveness. By incorporating elements from attachment theory, biofeedback, and cognitive-behavioral principles, along with recognizing the physiological impacts of human-animal interactions, equine therapy offers a rich, integrative approach to treatment. This complex theoretical base not only supports the efficacy of equine therapy but also underscores its potential as a therapeutic tool in addressing a wide range of psychological and physiological issues.

Modalities of Equine Therapy

Equine therapy encompasses several distinct modalities, each designed to leverage the unique benefits of human-horse interaction to meet various therapeutic goals. These modalities cater to different needs, ranging from mental health support to educational and developmental benefits, and even physical rehabilitation. Understanding the specific approaches within equine therapy helps to appreciate its versatility and the broad spectrum of conditions it can address. READ MORE>>>>

For our veterans, I found this promising snippet from dvnf.org:

A combination of evidence-based practices and theories are utilized in conjunction with the therapy horse as means of helping our nation’s heroes overcome their invisible wounds in StableStrides’ Equine Assisted Therapy program. Equine Assisted Therapy assists veterans with post-traumatic stress symptoms by processing and facilitating the reconnection between thoughts and feelings and, more specifically, learning to approach rather than avoid emotions and uncomfortable situations. This therapeutic process uses experiential learning and is solutions-focused meaning veterans are challenged to find solutions to problems in a timely and effective manner using the horse as a medium; learning is then applied and translated into everyday life. Veterans develop an awareness of their impact on the environment and make adjustments to produce the desired outcome.

After only his third Equine Assisted Therapy session at StableStrides, one veteran felt compelled to let go of a very heavy reminder from his past. For over 10 years this veteran had kept a large mangled piece of metal as a reminder. The piece of mangled mental was a broken piston from a vehicle that was used as an I.E.D. in Iraq…and an attack in which he was in charge of cleaning up the aftermath. After learning how horses are able to let go of the past and live in the present, this veteran decided he too was ready to live in the present and decided to leave the mangled metal reminder he’d carried for so long with the StableStrides team for good.
